The role

As a Commissioning Engineer, you will test and commission new installations, both in-house and on-site at our international customers. During commissioning and testing, you will actively participate in project meetings. You will prepare clear procedures and reports and also provide constructive feedback to other departments within SMST. After an onboarding period, you will be able to work independently based on a mutually agreed schedule. You will work closely with your fellow Commissioning Engineers.

What will you do?

  1. Independently carry out commissioning and testing of simple installations or parts of more complex systems;
  2. Perform commissioning activities on-site at customer locations;
  3. Determine and communicate the required tools, resources and materials needed for the work;
  4. Collaborating with colleagues and supervising colleagues or (local) subcontractors during commissioning activities;
  5. Use specific or specialist tools and measuring equipment when applicable; • Maintain and correctly use the tools and equipment assigned to you;
  6. Perform commissioning and service activities on location in consultation with the team;
  7. Follow safety-related actions in accordance with the HIRA form and the SMST Safety Policy;
  8. Identify potential improvement areas within the commissioning process;
  9. Initiate and follow up on communication with engineering departments to resolve design-related questions;
  10. Register and report all performed activities using established reporting formats to ensure documentation is accurate and transparent.

What do we expect from you?

  1. At least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role;
  2. Ability to work under offshore conditions without difficulty;
  3. Knowledge and experience with electrical systems and instrumentation/control technology;
  4. Experience with hydraulic systems is an advantage;
  5. Preferably several years of relevant experience in machine building or offshore industries;
  6. Experience with PLC software is an advantage;
  7. Proactive attitude and a hands-on mentality;
  8. Strong analytical skills and enjoyment in solving complex problems;
  9. Ability to work independently as well as in a team;
  10. Willingness to work on-site at customer locations worldwide for periods of 2-4 weeks; on average, you will spend 30% of the year abroad;
  11. Possession of offshore certificates (NOGEPA, OPITO, medical) is an advantage;
  12. Good command of the English language, both written and spoken;
  13. A high level of technical competence and independence is required, as company support may not always be immediately available due to time zone differences.
